Blepharoplasty
(Eye Lift)
This eyelid surgery is used to remove extra skin and/or fat from the upper or lower lids and raise droopy eyelids. An Eye Lift also removes puffiness and bags under the eyes.
How is this Blepharoplasty done?
Eye Lifts can be carried out under a local anesthesia but general anesthesia is usually preferred. The procedure can be performed in an outpatient setting.
The procedure can be done on the upper and/or lower eyelids. When the upper eyelid is done, an elliptical incision is made and a small amount of skin is removed. A laser may be used for this procedure. When the lower eyelid is done, an incision is usually made on the inside of the lower lid and a very small amount of fat is removed. This procedure reduces "puffiness". Then, many times a resurfacing type of procedure will be performed to cause collagen tightening and help firm the skin.
The surgery takes approximately 1 - 2 hours depending on if only upper or lower lids are being done or both. Healing time is approximately 1 week. If a resurfacing procedure is carried out at the same time it may take 10 days.
What does Blepharoplasty cost ?
The cost will vary depending upon if the upper or lower eye lids are done and whether both eyes are done at the same time. It is much less expensive to do both at the same time. Sometimes, insurance will help to cover the expense of the upper lids if the excess skin is enough to impair your vision.
